To understand how we hear, we must know that sounds are movements of the air. When we speak or when we play music, we create vibrations in the air. These vibrations move in all directions and reach our ears.
These vibrations arrive on the eardrum, which looks a bit like a tight drum skin, and on bones, which are in a liquid in the inner ear.
Following vibrations, these bones move and stir the liquid that is contained in a coiled channel like a snail.
The movements of the fluid are sent to the brain by a nerve, which is called an auditory nerve.
The brain then decodes the information and allows us to understand what we are hearing.
