What if we made bath bombs?

Taking a bath is fun. But it’s even more fun with bath bombs that explode and fizz in the water. With this creative workshop, you’ll make them in the colors of your choice and even with the scent, you like. Want to add a festive touch? Then add biodegradable glitter for a sparkling bubble bath.

Pour the baking soda, Epsom salt, citric acid and cornstarch into the salad bowl.

In a separate bowl, add the sweet almond oil.

introduce the food coloring

Add a few drops of your favorite food coloring and the fragrance (essential oil) of your choice. We have chosen the “Strawberry” fragrance

pour the colored liquid

Very slowly, pour your colored liquid preparation into the bowl while mixing vigorously with the whisk.

Once well mixed, you must obtain a perfectly homogeneous powder in terms of color.

Add the glitter of the color of your choice to finalize your preparation.

Now we make the bombs. Using a spoon, fill your mold. Pack well with your fingers. Once filled, close them gently and press with all your strength.

Wait a few minutes before releasing the pressure. Carefully remove the mold from above. And let them dry a few hours before moving on to the next one.

Place your bath ball on a baking sheet in a dry place.

After a few hours of drying, unmould your bath balls. To keep them longer, wrap them in cling film.

Now you can enjoy the pleasure of a relaxing and explosive bath, with a cosmetic product that you have prepared yourself.

The manufacture of bath bombs

So you’ve made bath bombs. Test them immediately in your bathtub.

When the water comes into contact with them, you see tons of bubbles invade your bath. It’s an effervescence. What’s going on? It’s a chemical reaction happening around you. When they come into contact with water, baking soda and citric acid become soluble. In solution, these two salts meet and react with each other.

Like vinegar, citric acid is what we call an acid. Baking soda is a base. When these two compounds react, they form, among other things, water and carbon dioxide. The bubbles you see are made of carbon dioxide. This is what escapes as your bath bomb dissolves.

This is the same chemical reaction you see in the volcano experiment.

You can make more in the scent of your choice. Lavender, Ylang Ylang, grapefruit, rosemary… anything goes.
